Changeling Expansion

Changelings, befitting their name, have different origins depending on their world. Some have ties to doppelgängers, some blessed by a god, some have simply formed out of the mutable essence of the fey. All of them have the same distinct ability, the ability to change their form.

Lineage Feats

Even creatures as fluid as water, find ways to improve themselves. Some changelings learn to push past the limits of what they were already capable, change their form in more unusual ways, others have reconnected with their ancestry and unlocked new potential that way.

Adaptive Body

Prerequisite: Changeling

Your body and form is malleable and soft, and you are able to use this to ease the blow of oncoming attacks. When you are hit with piercing, slashing or bludgeoning damage, you can use your reaction to give yourself resistance until the start of your next turn.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus.

Pass the Blessing

Prerequisite: ERLW Changeling

You have been blessed by the traveller to change your form and are able to share this with others.  When you use your action to use your shapechanger trait you are also able to change the shape of one other humanoid you are touching. They do not have to change to the same appearance as you, but otherwise have to abide by all other rules of this trait.

This transformation persists until you are no longer touching, at that point they return to their normal appearance.

Doppelgangers Detection

Prerequisite: ERLW Changeling

You are tied more strongly with your doppleganger ancestors than most changelings, gaining some of their innate telepathic ability. While you are using your shapechanger trait to mimic another creature you're able to detect their surface thoughts, so long as they are within 100ft of you.

In addition, while you are mimicking a creature, you are also able to detect which direction they are from you. Although not how far, or if there is anything in the way.

Evolutionary Change

Prerequisite Changeling

When you use your shapechanger trait you are able to push yourself to the extremes. You may gain one of the following benefits:

·        Aquatic Adaptation. You adapt your body to an aquatic Environment, sprouting gills and growing webbing between your fingers. You can breathe Underwater and gain a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.

·        Natural Weapons. You grow claws, fangs, spines, horns, or a different natural weapon of your choice. Your Unarmed strikes deal 1d6 bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage, as appropriate to the natural weapon you chose, and you are proficient with your unarmed strikes.

This lasts until you use your shapechanger trait again, or until you complete a long rest.
If you use your shapechanger trait again, you are not able to gain either of these benefits until you complete a long rest.

Invoke Name

Prerequisite: Any Fey

If you know a creature's true name, you can use a bonus action to invoke it, forcing the targeted creature to succeed a Wisdom Saving throw. On a failure the target has disadvantage on attack rolls and perception checks against any creature other than you, until the start of your next turn.

Your save DC for this ability is either Wisdom, Intelligence or Charisma, your choice when you select this feat.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus.

Ultimate Mimicry

Prerequisite: Changeling

When you pick this feat, choose one trait of another lineage, for example darkvision or fey ancestry. When you transform into a creature of that lineage you are able to gain the benefits of this trait.
In addition, you also count as this lineage for any prerequisites that require it, such as feats or magic items.

Unique Items

The abilities of the changeling inspire much jealousy as well as distrust. This selection of items vary from ones that can help changelings succeed in their shifting, allow others to detect them, or others hiding their true nature, or give other humanoids a taste of their flexible form.

Chrysalis of Unerring Change

Wonderous item, very rare (requires a changeling to use)

A hollow amber cocoon filled with softly glowing liquid. When you use your shapechanger trait to appear as someone you are familiar with, you can also crush this item to gain the following benefits.

·        You gain the proficiencies and general knowledge of the person you are imitating. Such as public family history, address, etc.

·        You gain access to any cantrips they have and gain an extra attack if they have one.

·        When you're asked a question that the person you have transformed as would know the answer to, you are able to make a DC 10 insight check to understand the wayward thoughts circling your head. On a success you are able to answer the question convincingly, but unable to understand what you said.

Once this magical item has been crushed, it becomes magically inert and dissolves into amber dust.

Inquisitors Ribbon

This porcelain mask is covered with a mosaic of mirror shards. While wearing it, onlookers do not see the mask, but instead see a perfect illusion of themselves.

A DC 11 Intelligence (Investigation) check will reveal the deception, and the illusion will be become faint to that individual.

Rings of Truthful Promise

Wonderous item, uncommon

These rings come as a matching pair, although more can be matched if necessary. While wearing this magic item, you can always see the true form of whoever is wearing the matching ring, and vice versa.

If any of the wearers are unwilling or ignorant of this item's magical ability, the ring becomes inert. This lasts until it is put on by someone who is willing and aware.
